  • There are 28,457 students enrolled in WCCUSD

    • 72% Socioeconomically disadvantaged

  • There are 54 WCCUSD schools serving kindergarten through 12th grade

  • WCCUSD employs approximately 3,200 full and part time staff

  • Through the WCCUSD District Local Control Accountability Plan (DLCAP) Committee, WCCUSD adopted a 5-goal accountability program to improve student achievement

    • Graduate Tutors are one aspect of this plan

  • Graduate Tutors’ educational achievement ranges from bachelor’s degree to PhD

  • 77% of Graduate Tutors surveyed live within the district

Potential Graduate Tutor Cuts and alternatives

  • A Board of Education vote in December 2018, put 44 Graduate Tutors at risk of being cut due to WCCUSD’s $11 million funding deficit

    • Graduate Tutors constitute just under $3 million dollars of the total budget

  • Graduate Tutors offer support to the most vulnerable students in the WCCUSD community

    • There is no alternative to Graduate Tutors available to students who use their services

  • The WCCUSD Board of Education committed to review all outside contracts and consultants in an attempt to make cuts elsewhere, possibly saving the Graduate Tutors

  • 4 out of 5 WCCUSD Board of Education members expressed reluctance to cut Graduate Tutors; the motion to review expenditures on outside contractors and consultants passed unanimously
